42. Because learning is not a solitary acitivity but one that requires collaboration among people, students of all ages will benefit academically if they work frequently in qroups.
People have debate over the way of learning for many years. Some thought learning is an individual-related thing; others, group-related ones. It is not appropriate to assert the definition of learning belongs to solitary acitivity or collaboration. Hence, I strongly disgree with the author on his/her point of view.
Learning improves students' individual working ability. For instance, when writing codes, students must use his/her own idea designing algorithm, architecture, data structure, and so forth; when preparing examination, by reading and remembering all importnat details or rules in textbooks can a student gets a high grades. Students knows how to gather information by thier own, how to analyze a question in a systematic way, how to efficently finished their homeworks before the deadline. The most obvious example is that students in graduate school need to write an essay if they want to get the Master's degree. During the process of writing, a student learns the whole method to do a research for the begin to the end, and finally his/her essay should be auditted by guiding professor. In other words, learning is actuall a individual acitivity.
Not only solitary activity but also collaboration among people can students receive by learning. As we know, there is a commonplace in various management courses -- team work, which means that several students must corporate and do a term project with each other. Students learn how to distribute different works to every group member, how to communicate with each other and exchange useful information, how to schedule complicated relationship between each task and optimize it. That is to sat, team work lets them absorb academic knowledge in different fields with less obstacle. Admittedly, collabration also benefits us.
Moreover, both individual activities and collabration are exsited in learning at the same time and they complement each other, producing the synergy. The goal of education is to provide students a proper environment, to strength their mind, to make them well-educated and to experience different courses and learning methods. Students will not get accustomed to the gap between campuses and society if they do not learn and balance these two learning skills. Consequently, it is an misleading concept that students can be benefits from collaboration instead of individual learning. We should combine them together.
In sum, learning consists of solitary acitivites and collaboration. Putting emphasis on one of the two elements too much will deter the development of a student and unsuccessfully keep up with the trend of the world.
