9. If a society is to thrive, it must put its own overall success before the well-being of its
individual citizens.

As time went by, people has witnessed the improvement and prosperity of our society. Taipei, Tokyo,and so forth, each of them with good entertainment, transport system, buildings, etc, is one of the biggest sities in the world. Not to mention, the government spent much time passing the law and developing our city in a well-defined way. I strongly bolster that a society must put its overall success prior to individuals.


As we know, people with different ages have different problems. As a student, he/she complains about lots of homework and studies; As a teacher, he/she is unsatisfied with the salary and the quality of classroom-related facilities; As a businessman, he/she doubts the reasonablility of trade-related laws and high taxes; As a worker, he/she thinks of deliberately ignored by the government and receiving low quality of care from the company. In addition, there are still many sorts of people with various complaint and requirement to improve their living standard, fulfilling their need and goals. Do the government must be responsible for dealing all these things well?

By skillfully overlooking some trivial things, it is an efficient way to make our society success and prosperous. According to a report, the average number of Taipei city government reveiving complaint or requirement from citizens is 3000 thousand a day. If the government cope with these things everyday instead of doing several important instruction form the governor or mayor, the progress of many significant constructon will be delayed and postponed more seriously than we can imagine. Take MRT for an example. Many drivers had suffered from traffic-jam since plenty of workers were digging the roads and building MRT station underground. Given that individual complaints and MRT development issue were always handled at the same time or interlevedly, citizens in Taipei would not be lucky enough to take fast, comfortable and clean train underground.

Moreover, people should be aware that the government is not almighty. There are many factors influencing the operation of the government, such as the number of officers, operating cost and expenses every month, the number of cases or problems, and so on. Admittedly, we must have an concept that individual's interest is transient. Instead, we should put more emphasis on making our society to thrive. Without myopia, avarice and desire, it is appropriate for us to do some beneficial things to whole people and next generation. Therefore, some trivial complaints or requirement should be threw away.

In sum, by abandoning some minor interests of individuals, a society will find the way to success and become prosper.
